David Flowers, Musical Box, Saturdays from 10-Midnight The weekend's place for Downtempo and Deep House. A part of WIUP's lineup since 2007, Musical Box provides a melodic ambient/jazz/house vibe for Saturday night from a variety of genres with an occasional classic tune thrown into the mix, segueing from contemplative to dance, with music not usually found on the radio dial. Current favorites include:Above & Beyond, Claptone, Leonard Cohen, Smokey Robinson and The Doors (yes, the Doors).
Jim McCardle, The Oldie Zone, Sundays from 6-8 PM ; Vital Tracks, Sundays from 11 PM-1 AM The Oldie Zone features music from the golden days of AM radio -- the mid 50s through the mid 60s. Relive early rock 'n' roll and pop music that was popular when each station had its own unique playlist. Requests for the Oldie Zone can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org. Any song whether a national hit or an obscure local favorite is fair game for the program.
Vital Tracks is two shows in one. The 1st hour, starting at 11 PM, consists of carefully selected small combo jazz and sultry vocals from the 1940s thru today. During the 2nd hour, the format switches to an eclectic mix of progressive and psychedelic rock along with the occasional folk, country, downtempo, etc included to complete Jim’s quest for the perfect set. The music encompasses quality tracks from the mid-60s thru today.
Marc Morrison, The Sunday Sampler, Sundays from 8-11 PM I've been airing a mix of old/new/familiar/forgotten music from numerous genres since 2005, aiming to make the old stuff and new stuff "play nicely together." Always listening to new music, and what I find week to week often ends up on the show! I post playlists and not much else of worth at sundaysampler.blogspot.com. Some current faves: Ava Luna, Becca Stevens Band, Dirty Projectors, Future Islands.
